131006 A MOUNTAIN OF SUCCESS

SO WHAT DOES THIS GOAT HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THINGS?
Read on about the MOUNTAIN OF SUCCESS

Our exciting week began with the going away celebration of Dennis and Diana Despain who came into the mission the same week we did, but had an 18 month mission instead of a 23 month mission.  They are good friends.  Can’t you just see how happy they are serving a mission?

LICEO PADRE FANTINI
We closed a humanitarian project with the Liceo Padre Fantino, a high school.  The project included giving them a computer, projector, printer and constructing some book shelves for their school library.  They only have books for the classes from year to year, no history books, no novels, no classics, nothing beyond the text books that are passed from one year to the next.  But they were very appreciative.   (They also enjoyed the ukulele songs that Wallace played and sang for them.  He was a big hit and is considering a world music tour!)

These two young men are the artists who painted the mural.

A MOUNTAIN OF SUCCESS
We took Gordon and Barbara Barker, temple missionaries on a trip to review the gardens in Parra, a little community high up in the mountains above San Jose de Ocoa.  This is the project that the church funded last year to construct 1500 meters of pipeline from a stream further up the mountain to provide water for gardens.  They are still working on a water tank but the gardens are wonderful.  They loaded us up with lettuce to take home

Brother Mateo standing where they want to build a tank for the water.

Two little girls belonging to the families getting water for their gardens.

There are about 5 gardens constructed this size or larger and all very productive.

This picture shows the water that is being delivered.  It doesn’t look like a lot, but it is constant and sufficient to supply several large gardens.  They continue to expand.  We will forever consider this as a great success story of our mission.

They are growing a number of fruit trees of various varieties and have begun to expand their animal production----all because of water.

We consider it a MOUNTIAN OF SUCCESS!  These good people have something to reach for.

  1. And we consider you both as "mountains of faith and doers." We love to see everything you are doing and are a bit jealous because we are not there to witness it first hand, but we can watch vicariously from Pleasant Grove. Suerte con todo!

  2. What a wonderful blessing to serve in the capacity that you are serving and to be able to see the fruits of your labors.

  3. What a green background for your adventures! I suppose that the rainwater is okay for surrounding vegetation but not dependable enough to water a dry farm, huh? Or is the water tank for their home's potable water?
Your pictures of the goat remind me that they will eat about anything--perhaps even your camera if you get too close.
Hope you are enjoying the wonder of the adventure. Thanks for sharing it on this blog!.
